3 positives to being a people pleaser

So yesterday morning I was having my time alone with God and was stopped dead in my tracks! Have you ever read a verse and it was like a light was shining on that verse because it was meant for you at that time?

If you read the last blog article, part of it was about me being a people- pleaser. Anyone else in my camp? I must make a conscious decision to say no, protect my time and do things for the right reason. But sometimes the people-pleaser gene is used for good.

  1. People-pleasers are typically PEACEMAKERS. I want to avoid conflict and keep peace. So I am very careful, most of the time, to use tact and choose my words wisely. I try to be aware of how others are feeling and make sure they are comfortable or feel loved. Do I get this perfect all the time? Of course not!
  2. People-pleasers usually make others feel welcome and comfortable. I tend to greet others and let them know that I am glad they are there – because I am. I want to know they feel at home when they come to my house. I try to know their preferences and provide those to make them feel special and do my best to see that they enjoy their time with me.
  3. Lastly, people-pleasers build relationships easily. This is where my first comment about yesterday’s bible study comes into play. I was reading in 1 Corinthians just as I have a million times before. As a family, we have even memorized verse 31. “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

But then keep reading….

Verse 33 — stopped me in my tracks! Where has this verse been all my people pleasing life? There is a purpose and I can use my God given personality for the advancement of His kingdom.

“just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.” 1 Corinthians 10:33

Insert SHOCK emoji!

Can this be for real? I feel like this should be my people-pleaser life verse. LOL! But for real…to have a purpose behind the pleasing. It is bigger than keeping everyone happy. It is about making others comfortable, inviting them in, opening your door, saying yes to discipleship, and building relationships through all this “THAT THEY MAY BE SAVED.”

Pleaser or not, this should be a life goal!

People are more likely to listen to you once you have built a relationship with them. After trust is built through time, one will hear you out as you have an opportunity to share with them what you believe. The truths of the gospel are received in love by a friend who knows you truly care about them.

Go sweet sister and make friends; do the things that welcome these relationships that go to a deeper level. Pray and ask God to place people in your life that need this caring friendship and the gospel message to be shared in love.

Enjoy time in the word tomorrow and maybe a little football after.

Food for thought: I suppose I say people pleaser a lot more than I type it. I never said I was an “expert” at writing correctly or all things grammar, so help me out here. HYPHEN or NO HYPHEN? Clearly, I chose to use a hyphen but I am not sure I was correct in this. I saw it both ways when I went searching. Come on my grammar lovers – what is the correct way to type “people pleaser”?? Comment and let me know if I failed miserably.

P.S. I love you 1,000 elephants!

Your Rooted and Restless Friend,

Tara
